Communicating 1:1 with one another. Christiansen Print’s new employee app

01.03.2019 Simple communication everywhere, at any time, at and between our three locations in Germany and France: our employee-only “Beekeeper” app, a digital tool capable of addressing specific employee groups individually using their smartphones, went online in November 2018. Fast and direct information and feedback in real time, sharing and management of “swarm mind” knowledge, both top-down and bottom-up.

All Christiansen Print teams can now access one single pool of information, without restriction and as their work demands, whether on the road or at the workplace. Information on meetings and training content is available quickly and directly. There is even an integrated chat function for new channels for direct discussion between employees: “Anyone can present their project and let colleagues know about their progress and achievements,” explains Franziska Enzenberg, Head of Human Resources. Problems and solution opportunities can be disseminated in this way. The platform promotes collaboration and encourages better teamwork among Christiansen Print employees.

But the tool is more than just a motivation-booster for internal communication. The app also pushes efficiency that shows up in a variety of areas. Based on requests by our employees, we are currently planning on using “Beekeeper” as the testing ground for an entirely new tool: it will offer a long-term visualisation of shift schedules via the app, making it easier and more convenient for employees to generate their own private plants, including for example holidays.

Our first app-distributed survey of employee satisfaction will also be sent out soon. In this way, we can send out our surveys in a more concentrated manner, receive quick and appropriate feedback and direct evaluations and ultimately react more quickly to the responses.
After just three months, we have already seen major pluses: Our new app offers 1:1 corporate communication that is inclusive of all and promotes understanding and engagement, innovation and teamwork. “Discussions between colleagues at the various Christiansen Print locations has improved enormously,” says Ulrike Tom, Business Process Coordinator in Ilsenburg. Communication with the French team from Garancières has benefited especially, as an integrated translation function helps colleagues call up the messages in the respective language of their choice.
